Privacy policy
DRAFT, not legal advice. This is a placeholder written to show the structure. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be replaced with reviewed terms (consumer law in NZ, AU, the EU/UK and US states differs) before Backline is sold.
Last updated: 20 October 2026 (draft).
What we collect
- Purchase: your name and email address, the tier you bought, your license key (stored encrypted, so we can resend it) and Stripe’s payment references. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
- Activation: a one-way, salted fingerprint of your computer’s hardware ID (not the ID itself), the computer name you see in Backline’s License settings, its operating system and version, processor type (e.g. Apple silicon or Intel), the app version, the audio device in use, and when it last checked in. No IP addresses are stored with your license.
- Website: standard server logs kept by our host (Vercel) for security. No advertising trackers.
What the app sends
Only license calls: activate, a periodic check every few weeks, and deactivate. Your songs, audio, setlists and settings never leave your computer. Section detection runs on your computer.
Who processes it
- Stripe (payments, tax), Supabase (license database), Postmark (license emails), Vercel (website hosting).
How long we keep it
License records are kept for as long as the license exists and as required for tax records. Removing a computer deletes its activation record.
Your choices
Ask for a copy or deletion of your data at support@backline.example. Deleting a license record ends that license.
